Blazer's Bulletin 12/16/22

12-16-2022

Dear RBS Family,If you’re anything like the Sturm household, you might have been having a few panicky evenings of late, often beginning with thoughts that go something like, “the holidays start when??” From decorating, meal-planning, calendar-coordination with friends and family, and of course looking for those completely-out-of-stock-boots that my 12-year-old “really really” wants, this is a time of year where the “good” can get lost in the shuffle. Luckily, being surrounded by a bunch of delightful, helpful, caring, fun and funny elementary school students each day serves a wonderful reminder of what is good! As you might remember, last Friday we dressed down in our PJ’s and slippers to support CCMC’s work in the area of childhood cancer, and beyond seeing the too-cute sharks, Paw Patrols and unicorn pajamas up and down our hallways, RBS raised over $1,400 to support children and families in their truly hardest moments – a wonderfully proud and self-less moment for our whole community!

Another perfect antidote to (sometimes-self-imposed?)-holiday-worries: last week’s Winter Concert, our first since 2019! Seeing our students up on stage, proudly singing and playing in front of a literally standing room only crowd of families, developing confidence and a love for music that only comes from the magic of performing, was a tremendous joy for each and every one of us. I’m proud to be part of a district that continues to support the idea of students benefiting from varied, broad experiences that we hope spark life-long interests – especially when they involve over one hundred nine- and ten-year old’s belting out the beautiful song “Give Us Hope”! Our collective thanks to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Strick, and all our fourth-grade students, teachers, and families!

As we head into the final school week of 2022, a few reminders and updates:

  • A reminder that our last day of the “year,” Friday, December 23rd will follow our half-day schedule – 11:30 AM Dismissal for PK and 11:50 AM dismissal for K-4, and school will be closed for the winter holiday break through Monday, January 2nd, returning on Tuesday, January 3rd
  • Funding for our free breakfast and lunch program runs out at the end of this month; breakfast and lunch go back to our regular costs when we return in January. A separate note from our Nutrition Services department is coming out with more details, but please reach out if you need any assistance as this has been a wonderful program for all our students over the past two years, and I want to make sure everyone has what they need to keep our kids set up for learning.

With that, an early wish for a wonderful holiday season for our whole RBS community – may you have at least a few days of relaxation and connection, and opportunities for grace, care, and happiness!

-Noam, Susan, and the whole RBS Team
